Ibm Db2 Odbc Driver Windows

In the Following Video you will Learn how to configure / Installing an ODBC driver in Windows 7. You can download ODBC drivers from this link = https://dev.m.

DB2 10.5 (spatial and non spatial) is supported in FME 2016.0. Article Update coming soon!

FME connects to an IBM DB2 database through an ODBC connection. These notes give some general guidelines on how to configure that ODBC connection.

IBM DB2 Client Install:

You need to install the IBM DB2 client. This can be found on the IBM web site. At the time of writing the client installer was: v9.7fp1_nt32_client.exe file but there is also a 64 bit version available.

  • Make sure you are NOT mixing a 64 bit IBM DB2 ODBC client with an FME 32 bit install or vise versa.
  • Copy the installer to your computer
  • Extract it somewhere (temporary directory)
  • In the extracted directory, run the setup.exe file
  • Select 'Install a product' in the left menu
  • Scroll down a little in the right part and click on the 'Install New' button in the 'IBM Data Server Client Version 9.7' section
  • Click 'Next'
  • Accept the terms in the license agreement and click 'Next'
  • Select the 'Typical' installation type and click 'Next'
  • Use the 'Next' and 'Finish' buttons to navigate to the end of the installation process

After the IBM DB2 client has been installed there are a few manual configuration steps.

  • In the Start Menu, pick 'Configuration Assistant' under 'IBM DB2DB2COPY1 (Default)Set-up Tools'
  • You will be asked if you want to add a new database; select 'Yes'
  • Select 'Search the network' and click 'Next'
  • Double-click on 'Other systems (Search the network)' and find your database server - for example: 'BT-DB-DB2_81'
  • Expand the entry for your database server, i.e. 'BT-DB-DB2_81'
    • !!!IMPORTANT!!! if there are two databases with the same name listed, expand the first one - the first one listed should be the actual DB2 database server
  • Expand 'DB2'
  • Expand 'Local databases'
  • Select the name of the database 'TESTDB'
  • Click 'Next'
  • Change the database alias to 'db2_81'
  • Click 'Next' again
  • Check the 'Register this database for CLI/ODBC'
  • Select 'As system data source'
  • Click 'Finish'

You can test the connection by using the db2 Admin user and password.

Possible Issues:

  • Do not mix 32/64 bit DB2 client and FME applications
  • There used to be issues with connecting to 'iSeries Access ODBC Driver' clients. This has been fixed in newer versions of FME.

Question & Answer

Driver

Question

When creating a new data source name (DSN) on a Microsoft Windows 32-bit system to access the iSeries server that hosts Lotus Enterprise Integrator (LEI), you do not see the iSeries Access ODBC driver listed as an available driver. Where can you find this?

Cause

The IBM iSeries Access for Windows client isn't listed if it is not installed on the 32-bit system. Windows 32-bit systems will not normally show an ODBC driver option for iSeries when creating a new DSN via the ODBC Data Source Administrator tool.

Answer

As noted in the LEI Installation Guide, Chapter 2, System Requirements section:

  • Client libraries of the external systems to be accessed must be installed on the LEI server machine as well as the Domino server machine, if separate.
Driver
To access DB2/400 data on an iSeries system with an ODBC Driver, you must install the appropriate iSeries Access for Windows client on the 32-bit system that hosts the LEI server. Once installed, the iSeries Access ODBC Driver is listed as an available driver when creating a new DSN on the system.
For general information, refer to the IBM i Access for Windows site. For installation information including where to source the image, refer to Installing IBM i Access for Windows on the PC.
(IBM does not plan to support IBM i Access for Windows on operating systems beyond Windows 8.1. The replacement product is IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS), which includes 5250 emulation, data transfer, printer output, console support, and more. For information regarding IBM i Access Client Solutions, refer to http://www.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/access/solutions.html )
