Updating the TV to the latest software allows you access to the newest features and bug fixes.

Am trying to update the KD55X9005C with the latest firmware, but it seems to be in an update loop - I have formatted the USB stick in FAT32, extracted the latest firmware file (5.381) on to it, and put it into the TV. ・Perform the update on your own responsibility. ・After performing the update, the software cannot be reverted to the previous version. ・Some settings may be initialized by performing the update. In this case, perform the settings again. ・After performing the update, application updates may be required from Google Play, etc.

IMPORTANT:

  • Read the instructions carefully or you could end up causing the TV to become unresponsive or require a repair.
  • Don't turn the TV off or disconnect it from the power while it's updating.

Method 1: If the TV is connected to the Internet
By executing a Software Update, your TV immediately obtains the latest software from the Internet.
The steps to update the software differ depending on the menu system on your television.

NOTE: A Software Update Required message may appear when trying to access Internet video services. If this message is displayed, follow the steps below to update the software on the TV.

Start the process by pressing the Home button on the remote control. Depending on what is shown on your screen, follow the appropriate steps below:

  • If (Help) is displayed in the top-right corner of the screen:
  1. Select (Help).
  2. Select Customer Support.
  3. Select Software Update.
  4. Select Network.
    NOTE: If Network is not shown, skip this step.
  5. Select Yes to start installing the update.
  • If (Help) is NOT displayed in the top-right corner of the screen:
  1. Select Settings.
  2. Select Customer Support, Setup or Product Support.
  3. Select Software Update.
  4. Select Network.
    NOTE: If Network is not shown, skip this step.
  5. Select Yes to start installing the update.

If a Software Update option is not available in your menu:

  • Some older TVs do not have the ability to force the TV to search for a software update. In these TVs there may only be an option to receive an Automatic Software Update . When this option is set to On, the TV will automatically search for software updates when the TV is in standby mode and you will be prompted to install the update once it is downloaded.

Method 2: If the TV is not connected to the Internet:
If you want to update the software now, you can download a firmware update for free from the Sony Support website, then save it to a USB flash drive and install it on your TV.
NOTE:

  • A firmware update via Sony support pages is only available to models with USB software update capability.
  • For models without USB software update capability (often older models), service assistance is required.

Updating using a USB flash drive If your TV doesn't have Internet access and you wish to do the update manually, you can do so using a USB flash drive to download the update from the Sony support website.
  1. Go to the Sony support website
  2. Type your TV model name in the search box
    If you do not know what your model number is, please check the sticker label at the lower left corner of your TV back panel.
    Examples of correct model names are: KD-55X9305C | KD-65S8505C | KDL-55W805C
  3. Scroll down to Downloads and click on the Firmware/Software update name.
  4. Follow the instructions on the website to download the update to a USB flash drive and perform the update on your TV.
